Marriage proposal ideas to consider
A marriage proposal is a very personal thing, and of course, there is no one-size-fits-all. But it does not hurt to draw inspiration from other people’s ideas and help you to come up with your own. As a marriage proposal photographer, I have had the privilege of photographing a few marriage proposals, All of them beautifully unique and personal to fit the character of the person being proposed to, and some that are epic. Here are some of them below.
Top marriage proposal Ideas and inspiration
- Skydiving marriage proposal ideas– So for Tahshen his idea was to take his girlfriend Serena skydiving first – a bucket list tick for them, and they do have a sense of adventure there two. But unbeknownst to Serena, Tahshen had a bit more of an elaboration to the plan. You can read more about it here – Marriage Proposal ideas – Tahshen and Serena
- Take them to your special personal location – This may seem obvious, but going to a location that has meaning to both of you or that you have always wanted to visit together, is a great way to set the stage for your marriage proposal ideas. You can elaborate on it any way you want. Levesh’s marriage proposal ideas for Rebecca did just this – he took her back to the place where they first met- Col’cacchios at Emperor’s palace, and ordered what they ordered on their first date – a chocolate brownie – but the team at Col’cacchios were in on it and brought the brownie fully decorated with the words marry me on the plate. levesh then got down on one knee and proposed. 🙂
- Incorporate something you love to do together. A great example is Enver’s proposal to Simone – they both love everything comic-related, so the comic warehouse where they spend a lot of their time together was a great place for Enver to plan a photoshoot during which he then proposed to Simone!
- Set up a romantic scene Like Brendon’s marriage proposal ideas for Nicole in the photos above – he found a secluded spot in a game reserve to set up a picnic blanket with rose petals, champagne, and cushions, then during our photoshoot he led her here, serenaded her with a guitar and got down on one knee 🙂
- Get the family or friends involved – if you know he or she loves to have their family around and you want them all to be involved with this special moment, then these marriage proposal ideas from Johnry to Lache which involved the whole family are a great way to do just that. We told Lache she was coming for a family shoot, but she did not know that they were all waiting for the moment to distract her for a few seconds so that Johnry could go down on one knee and propose when she turned back around. We also had some great photos of the family checking out the ring and celebrating afterward.
- Make it fancy – take him or her to a fancy expensive restaurant or hotel where you can spoil her with a nice meal and champagne. If they are the kind of girl or boy that likes to be spoilt and made to feel special then this may be the route to go. It is a classic marriage proposal idea, but still works.
What to remember when planning a marriage proposal photoshoot
So now you have an idea in your mind of how you want to propose, its time to make it a reality! If you want to do a marriage proposal during a photoshoot there are a few things to remember .
- Keep it simple – Your head will be spinning when you do a proposal so you dont want to give yourself too much to remember – keep the plan between you and the photographer simple and know where you must stand etc to get the best shot – dont try to overcomplicate it.
- Keep a plan B at hand – for instance if you are planning an outdoor shoot and it rains, do you have a plan B? Or will you postpone it completely? Make sure the plan is clear with your photographer as well beforehand in case there is no time before D-Day – you can just let them know you are going to plan B.
- As much as possible rather try to propose during a part of an actual photoshoot if you want photos of it. The reason is it gives you an excuse to tell your partner to get dressed up, makeup and nails done, etc, but also then the photographer can be close enough when the moment happens to capture it – If your significant other does not know about the photographer then the photos can only be taken from far away and may be limited.
- Think about the details beforehand – do you want to go down on one knee or stand? Where will he/she be seated or standing at the time you do that? Have you got the ring ready? How will you present the ring? Do you know what you are going to say? having a bit of a speech prepared is great (and allows more time for photos ;))
