Jaco and Marizelle chose a location close to them that they love to go to as a family. This meant it was already familiar for their two feisty little boys who are full of energy and curiosity. The challenge is keeping their concentration long enough to get some amazing natural family photo poses. For Jaco(5) and Zander(2) this family photoshoot was no exception – but here is how we used this location to really engage with them.

– Climbing & Exploring: In this shoot, we had the kids climbing a fallen willow tree — it gave them something fun to do and the photos felt adventurous.
– Unexpected Props: A nearby anthill became the perfect perch for sitting and giggling.
– Wide Open Spaces: Running games in a big field created playful, candid moments.
– Personal Touches: Dad was a Land Rover lover, so we included shots with the family’s Landy — a unique detail that tells their story.

– Go with the flow — if kids get interested in something (a stick, a bug, a tree), lean into it.
– Mix posed shots with candid prompts. – this breaks up the monotony of simply standing and trying to smile awkwardly at the camera.
– Be ready to capture fleeting expressions and interactions. – These happen really quick, and if you are using a prompt you need to be ready for the reaction.
